Microsoft has announced that Windows 11 is now available to download for users in India. The new Windows operating system has been released as a free upgrade on eligible Windows 10 PCs and new PCs pre-installed with Windows 11.
“New pre-installed Windows 11 devices have begun rolling out from partners including Asus, HP, and Lenovo with more coming soon from partners like Acer and Dell,” Microsoft has announced.
As per the company, Windows 11 supports several factors like convertibles and 2-in-1 devices alongside traditional desktops and laptops. Additionally, it supports a range of silicon from companies including AMD and Intel.
The tech giant has notified through a blog post that it aims to roll out Windows 11 for all eligible Windows 10 devices by mid-2022. In the meantime, the Windows 11 upgrade will be available for newer Windows 10 PCs manufactured by Asus, HP, Lenovo, etc. It will also bring Windows 11 pre-installed to its new range of Surface devices that are being introduced in the US starting yesterday.
How to Upgrade to Windows 11
Before upgrading Windows 10 to Windows 11, ensure your existing PC or laptop meet the below requirements:
- Windows 11 requires a PC with 8th Gen Intel Coffee Lake or AMD Zen 2 CPUs or higher
- Your PC’s CPU should have TPM 2.0 enabled. Some older CPUs are also compatible but they will need a BIOS update from your manufacturers such as Asus, Acer, HP, and Dell
- Your PC must have at least 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage (HDD or SSD)
- It has to have at least a 9-inch display with a 720p resolution
Once you meet the above-mentioned requirements for your PC, you can install Windows 11 by following the below steps.
Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and tap on ‘Check for updates’. If your device is eligible and the upgrade is ready, you will see the option to download and install. If you are ready to install Windows 11, then you can select Download and install.
