Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia has bagged the bronze medal in men’s 65kg wrestling at the Tokyo Olympics. The 27-year-old star wrestler defeated Kazakhstan’s Daulet Niyazbekov 8-0 in the bronze medal match on Saturday.
The three-time medal winner at the world championships, Punia, entered as the event favourite. But he lost the game in the semifinal against Aliyev of Azerbaijan.
Punia is the only Indian to have won multiple medals at the world championships and became a world No. 1 in his weight category (65kg) in November 2018. Again, he made a comeback to the top-ranking earlier this year. He had won many medals for the country, including the gold at Asian Games (2018) and Commonwealth Games (2018), two gold medals at Commonwealth Championships, two gold medals at Asian Championships etc.
Many have hailed the star wrestler for his victory.
