According to the BBC, a shot of a street food seller operating in a smoke-filled oven has won a major food photography competition. Debdatta Chakraborty was chosen as the overall winner of Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2022 for a photograph titled Kebabiyana, captured in Srinagar, Kashmir.
The snapshot was taken at Srinagar’s Khayyam Chowk, an alleyway that during the day seems like any other street. Vendors ignite many charcoal ovens in the evening, and the fragrance and smoke of wazwan kebabs from the grills convert this street into a foodie’s heaven.
The shot was taken on a crowded street late at night, while merchants prepared wazwan kebabs and another street cuisine on charcoal grills.
The winning shot “beautifully caught billowing embrace of the smoke, the golden light, the subject’s mood as he prepares the dish for sharing,” said Caroline Kenyon, creator, and director of Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year.
“Sparks fly from the skewers, whose roasting we can almost smell, the warm, sweet perfume we envision. This soft but powerful image nurtures our spirit,” Ms. Kenyon continued.
In a ceremony live-streamed on YouTube, Monica Galetti, restaurant owner, Masterchef judge, and globally recognized chef, announced the winners.
Numerous people from all around the world participated in this year’s competition, and each category had an overall winner.
