Battlegrounds Mobile India Raises Existential Crisis Concerns Before Formal Launch

PUBG Mobile makes a comeback this week in a whole new avatar, Battlegrounds Mobile India. Battlegrounds Mobile India, the PUBG Mobile replacement, had been available in open beta but only to a limited number of testers.

Battlegrounds Mobile India had gone up for pre-registrations on May 18. Since then, fans have been eagerly waiting to play the game.

Although Krafton, the video game publisher, claims the new game is developed to address concerns over its original version, it is not new. Battleground Mobile India is a more tweaked version of PUBG Mobile, with some unnecessary differences. And there are no such changes in the latest version. It’s just PUBG Mobile has additional tricolour posters relegated to the marketing teasers.

The Indian-version video game is presently available for early access for Android users. Krafton said two hours after the release of the battle royale game, it crossed the mark of 5 million downloads. However, it has not been a smooth initial success for the game as some entities still seek a ban on this game.

Arunachal Pradesh Member of Legislative Assembly Ninong Ering urged Prime Minister Modi to ban the game weeks ahead of the official launch of Battlegrounds Mobile India. The government has not publicly responded to Ering.

Immediately after its release, the Indian version of PUBG Mobile was transferred data to servers outside the country, including China. However, the data-sharing issue was fixed when it was reported online. The GOI ban on PUBG was imposed in September last year due to its alleged ties with China. Traders’ body Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has also demanded a ban on the Indian version of PUBG, citing it was sharing user data outside India.

The game developers haven’t added many changes to gameplay in Battlegrounds Mobile India, and the changes are barely noticeable due to porting over the Chinese version. For example, the effects of gore and violence have been removed as the Chinese administration doesn’t allow that in its games. Even typical red animation of blood has been replaced with green leaves.

However, Krafton has allowed existing PUBG Mobile users to move their original pre-saved game data to Battlegrounds Mobile India, though friends with whom you were grouping or playing matches on PUBG Mobile will not be automatically added you start playing on the new platform.

The publisher of Battlegrounds Mobile India has not shared any details about the time of its release out of beta or on iPhone yet.
