UAE President Reiterates Importance of Global Unity at G20 Summit

The President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has reiterated the Emirati belief in the necessity of global unity to address the challenges facing humanity. In a video posted on Instagram during his visit to India for the G20 summit, Sheikh Mohamed expressed his commitment to supporting international efforts to achieve a stable and sustainable future for all.

The video showcases the highlights of the two-day summit, where leaders from the world’s top 20 economies came together to address various pressing challenges. It begins with warm welcomes and vibrant scenes from India, setting the tone for the historic and groundbreaking discussions that followed.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly greets Sheikh Mohamed, emphasizing the shared goal of ensuring the welfare and happiness of all mankind. Despite differences among key players in the group, the leaders managed to reach a consensus on a declaration that will guide their efforts in tackling significant challenges in the years ahead.

The video also captures the moment when various leaders join hands to celebrate the launch of the Global Biofuels Alliance, a significant initiative involving 19 countries and 12 international organizations, including G20 and non-G20 members.

French President Emmanuel Macron is seen embracing Sheikh Mohamed and referring to him as a “friend.” He expresses gratitude and a commitment to invest alongside the UAE. Sheikh Mohamed responds with a heartfelt gesture, placing his hand on his heart, symbolizing the strength of their partnership.

The G20 introduced an ambitious infrastructure project during the summit, aiming to create a vast shipping and rail corridor connecting India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Europe, and the US. This project, seen as an alternative supply chain in the post-pandemic era, promises all-round economic development across multiple countries.

Throughout the video, Sheikh Mohamed engages in handshakes and in-depth discussions with various leaders, reflecting the spirit of cooperation that defined the summit. He held individual meetings with several country leaders during the event.

Snippets of addresses by leaders like US President Joe Biden, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud are also featured in the video.

The UAE has committed to working alongside Saudi Arabia, the European Union, India, and the United States on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor reflecting its dedication to strengthening international partnerships and contributing to a sustainable future. This initiative aligns with the UAE’s role as the host of the upcoming COP28 climate conference in November.

In addition to addressing issues related to low and middle-income economies, the New Delhi Leaders Declaration, adopted by the G20, seeks to prepare the world for future challenges, including ongoing conflicts like the one in Ukraine. The group also addressed energy transition goals, renewable energy targets, and the reduction of coal dependence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed a virtual meeting in November for G20 leaders to review progress on policy suggestions and goals outlined during the summit, emphasizing the collective responsibility to accelerate progress.

The G20 summit proved to be a platform where leaders put aside differences and worked together to address pressing global issues, reflecting the growing influence of Global South members and the commitment to a sustainable, inclusive future.
