Pongal, the harvesting festival of people in Tamil Nadu, is celebrated across the world where Tamil Communities live. Pongal holds great significance for people living abroad, far off their homeland, keeping them tied to their culture and traditions.
Pongal celebrations can be witnessed throughout Gulf countries, Australia, the European countries, and the USA, where a significant Tamil community resides.
In UAE, Tamil Entrepreneurs and Professionals Association (TEPA) and Lulu have celebrated the Pongal on January 15 at Souk Warsan Lulu Hypermarket City, in International City, Dubai.
Actress Komal Sharma, Lulu manager Nasaruddhin, Dr Paul Prabahar, President of UAE TEPA, were dignitaries in Pongal Kondatam 2022.
“Pongal was celebrated with much enthusiasm even in Dubai,” said Dr Paul while talking to NRI Vision.
Traditional art forms featuring the Tamil culture were part of the event. The traditional performances included folk songs, Karakattam and Oyilattam.
As part of the event, kolam and Pongal making competition, colouring competition etc., were held.
