The Non-Resident Indian (NRI) community across the world has come in support of protesting farmers in India. Indian farmers have called for a Bharath Bandh on September 27, marking 10 months of the farmers’ agitation against the three contentious farm laws.
The farmers have been pointing out that the laws in question would decisively hand over agricultural production and trade to big companies, threatening their livelihoods as well as food security in a country that has about 200 million hungry people.
As the farmers took out protests and demonstrations, the NRI community from various parts of the world has shown solidarity with the protesting farmers. The protesting farmers have been receiving staunch support from the NRI community.
Ahead of the Bharath Bandh, the Indian community in Ireland on September 25 held a protest outside the Indian Embassy in Dublin in support of the Indian farmers.
Indian Workers Association, London, has also staged a protest in London in solidarity with the farmers’ protest in India.
On September 26, a solidarity gathering was held at Harvard Square. Many took to the streets to express backing for the protesting farmers in India.
Many have gathered in Washington and New York City as well to demonstrate their solidarity with the Indian Farmers.
The protests are ongoing and many have been pouring in these solidarity protests across the world.
