Ricardo Salinas Pliego, the third-richest billionaire in Mexico, said people should stay away from fiat currencies, like the dollar and euro, and invest in bitcoin, calling fiat “fake money made of paper and lies.” He added that “Central banks are printing more money than ever before.”
Mexico’s third-richest billionaire offered the advice in a video message he sent on Twitter to wish his followers happy holidays.
According to Forbes ‘ list of billionaires, his net worth is currently $13 billion. He is the founder and chairman of Grupo Salinas, a group of companies interested in telecommunications, media, financial services, and retail stores.

Salinas has recommended people buy bitcoin before. He tweeted in November, “Buy bitcoin right now”, citing that the U.S. is “looking more and more like any other irresponsible third world country.” A chart illustrating “the scale of fake money creation” was also posted by the author.
He made plans for his bank to accept BTC in June. “I recommend the use of bitcoin, and my bank is working to become the first one in Mexico to accept bitcoin,” he tweeted. He believes that “Bitcoin is the new gold,” noting that it is “much more portable than gold.”
Salinas announced that Grupo Elektra, a leading retailer in Latin America, had begun accepting bitcoin in December.
