DAAD Offers Scholarship For Master’s In International Health

DAAD or the German Academic Exchange Service is a national agency of 365 German institutions. Funded by the German government and EU, DAAD offers 1,40,000 scholarships and grants annually around the world. It supports doctoral scholars, researchers and supports students financially to study abroad and in German universities. 

DAAD is currently providing a fully-funded master’s programme of Science in International Health. Hosted by the Institute of Tropical Medicine and International Health at Charité – Universitäsmedizin Berlin, the programme aims for equity in health, healthy lifestyles and settings, reduction of health risk and universal health coverage. The programme combines diverse fields such as Public Health, Epidemiology, Tropical Medicine, Medical Anthropology, Health Economics, Management Science and provides rigorous training to prepare the students to tackle the issues concerning international health. The students have the option of choosing from 13 advanced modules as per their interests.  

Candidates with excellent academic records and a minimum of two years of related professional experience are eligible to apply for the course. 

Scholarship holders will begin their studies by attending the Core Course at Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin. For the advanced studies, they have to complete Advanced Modules in Berlin or at the partner universities in Heidelberg, Germany and Bergen, Norway. The Master Thesis is done at the National Institute of Public Health in Cuernavaca, Mexico. 

Students interested in the course will be required to complete the steps given below to apply for the programme: 

1. DAAD application form, personally signed with the current date. The form can be found here

2. Curriculum Vitae, personally signed with the current date. The curriculum must be submitted in Europass format. You can find the sample form here

3. Letter of Motivation, personally signed with the current date (maximum 2 pages) 

4. Research proposal for a suggested Master Thesis project (maximum 3-5 pages). 

5. Letter of recommendation from your current employer.  

6. Certificate(s) of Employment from the employer(s) that prove a minimum of two years of relevant working experience (after the Bachelor degree) at the time of application (with letterhead, signature and stamp) and if possible, a guarantee of re-employment from your current employer upon returning home. 

7. Proof of English Language Skills: IELTS (Band 6) certificate or TOEFL (minimum score: 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, 80 internet-based).
