East China Normal University (ECNU) is a public research university situated in Shanghai, China. Founded in Shanghai in October 1951, East China Normal University (ECNU) is one of the most prestigious universities in China sponsored by the national top university construction programmes “Project 211” and “Project 985”. ECNU has always been ranked among the top two or three in the mainland Chinese universities in Education according to the most recent QS World University Rankings by Subjects, and Academic Ranking of World Universities by Subjects.
In 2021, it was ranked 37th globally in the Times Higher Education Rankings by Subjects in “Education”. With two beautiful campuses located in the Minhang and Putuo districts of Shanghai, and covering a total area of more than 207 hectares, ECNU has long been known as a Garden University. ECNU attaches great importance to Internationalization. The University has established exchange and cooperative partnerships with more than 200 globally renowned universities and academic institutions.
Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship was established in 2006 with the aim to enhance the development of international student education in Shanghai and encourage outstanding international students and scholars to join ECNU. Shanghai Government Scholarship is only meant for the excellent international students who apply for the undergraduate, graduate or PhD program at East China Normal University.
Students for the undergraduate programme without a qualified HSK level can apply for a one-year pre-college programme to study Chinese sponsored with a full scholarship. If the applicant fails to achieve the qualified HSK level even after the pre-college programme, then the applicant can only graduate as a language student.
Eligibility
1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and in good health.
2) Education background and age limit:
Applicants for the pre-college programme must have a high school diploma and be under 23.
Applicants for the Bachelor’s degree programme must have a high school diploma and be under 25.
Applicants for the Master’s degree programme must have Bachelor’s degree and be under 35.
Applicants for the doctoral degree program must have a Master’s degree and be under 40.
3) Students who have won the Chinese Government Scholarship or any scholarship offered by other organizations are not entitled to apply for this scheme.
Funding Details
There are two types of scholarships available for eligible students:
1) Type A (Full scholarship)
Exempt from tuition fees and accommodation on campus; provide comprehensive medical insurance and monthly living expense (Doctoral program: CNY3500; Graduate program: CNY3000; Undergraduate program: CNY2500)
2) Type B (Partial scholarship)
Exempt from tuition fees and provide comprehensive medical insurance.
