Unravelling Harding Distinguished PG Scholars Programme Of The University Of Cambridge

Located in the centre of the ancient city of Cambridge, The University of Cambridge is a collegiate public research institution that serves more than 18,000 students from all corners of the globe. Founded in 1209, the University of Cambridge’s 800-year history makes it the fourth-oldest university in the world and the second-oldest university in the English-speaking world. The university consists of numerous listed buildings and is divided into 31 autonomous colleges, with many of the older ones situated on the famous river Cam.

Applications are made directly to the individual colleges, rather than to the university overall. Renowned for academic excellence and traditional scholarly values, the University of Cambridge often ranks among the top universities in the world in terms of teaching, research, and international outlook. The university has produced eminent mathematicians, scientists, politicians, lawyers, philosophers, writers, actors and heads of state. Ninety-eight Nobel laureates and 15 British prime ministers have affiliations with Cambridge as students, faculty or alumni, including the scientists Francis Crick and Frederick Sanger.

The University of Cambridge offers the Harding Distinguished Postgraduate Scholars Programme to graduate students, who are rooted in their societal context and wish to produce research that can enrich academic discourse positively. The aim of the Harding Distinguished Postgraduate Scholars Programme (HDPSP) is to support academically outstanding University of Cambridge Ph.D. students from any part of the world, and in any discipline, to contribute to society by producing intellectually rigorous research, which makes a positive difference to the academic community and beyond.

At least 25 Ph.D. students will receive a prestigious Harding Distinguished Postgraduate Scholarship annually, creating a cohort of the strongest Ph.D. students in any given year across a diverse range of subject areas.

A significant proportion of the Harding Distinguished Postgraduate Scholarships (up to 25-33% each year) will be at St Catharine’s College. The larger group at St Catharine’s College reflects David Harding’s previous association with the College. However, the remainder will be distributed so as to guarantee excellent postgraduate students across the whole Collegiate University.
