The University of Nottingham is a public research university based in the East Midlands in England, the UK. Founded in 1881, the university has steadily grown and is ranked 84th in the world in the QS World University Rankings. It has consistently been ranked amongst the top universities in the UK, the fifth-largest university in the country, and associated with the European University Association, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Universitas 21, and also a member of the Russell Group.
The university is home to 48,000 students from more than 150 countries, with a global alumni community of almost 300,000 graduates. The prestigious computer science department at Nottingham is currently offering 15 four-year fully-funded scholarships. The center is interdisciplinary in nature and welcomes Ph.D. applicants from diverse backgrounds including computer science, engineering, mathematics, human factors, psychology, sociology, business, geography, social science, medicine/health studies and the arts.
The programme has adopted a radical approach to training that combines teachings with industry engagement and practice-led research in a highly flexible manner. Under the guidance of a personal mentor, each student will undertake a journey from an initially narrow disciplinary focus to a point where they are fully equipped for a career within industry or academia. This will involve developing transdisciplinary skills as well as transferable skills in research, innovation and appreciation of societal impact. The Centre for Doctoral Training Programme comprises three core elements: a taught programme, placement and the research programme.
The Centre brings together leading figures from computing, engineering, social sciences, business, and humanities from the University of Nottingham, plus researchers from the Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility at De Montfort University. The programme is co-funded by EPSRC and over 40 industry, third sector and international partners.

To be eligible for the studentship, it is necessary to be proficient in English, certified by an IELTS score above 6.5. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a capability to undertake and benefit from research training through completion to qualify for a doctorate. This normally requires an upper second-class honours degree, or a combination of qualifications and/or experience equivalent to that level.
