Establishing a medical institution is not an easy task especially when it is in another country. The Thumbay Group in UAE which was established by Indian-origin ThumbayMoideen has crossed these hard tasks establishing Thumbay University Hospital in Ajman, the largest private academic hospital. The Thumbay University Hospital marked its first anniversary in December 2020.
The milestones it has achieved within a year are not small. Established as a centre for providing adequate clinical training facilities to the students of Gulf Medical University (GMU), today it has grown into a popular medical tourism destination in the region. ThumbayMedicity, which comprises three hospitals and a university, is in its pursuit of excellence in healthcare, medical education and research. Thumbay University Hospital features a dedicated 100-bed long-term care and rehabilitation unit, 10 modern surgical suites for all major specialities, centre for imaging, cath lab, ICU/CCU/NICU/PICU, 10-bed dialysis unit, and more. The hospital also has 10 labour and delivery rooms.
Dr MoideenThumbay, its founder is also credited with the development of a company which has contributed vastly to multiple sectors including education, healthcare, medical research etc. He was the first expatriate to be invited by the Rulers of Ajman to start a medical institution in the UAE, thus leading to the establishment of the Gulf Medical University which caters to providing education to students from over 80 countries around the world. He has also been ranked 16 among “The Top Indian Business Leaders in The Arab World” by Forbes Middle East.
The Thumbay University Hospital was inaugurated on December 9, 2019, by His Highness Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and has since then expanded its foray into healthcare, constituting the biggest network of private academic hospitals in the region. The first anniversary of the hospital was celebrated in the presence of Dr ThumbayMoideen and other guests like Akbar MoideenThumbay; Professor HossamHamdy, chancellor of GMU; Manveer Singh Walia, Chief Operating Officer; Dr FoziDakilah, Medical Director; and Nancy Mendonca, the Chief Nursing Officer of Thumbay University Hospital Ajman, as well as other members of the hospital’s administrative team and hospital staff.
