Kerala’s 23-year-old Pilot Jeni Jerome Scripts history

23-year-old Jeni Jerome, Kerala’s first youngest commercial pilot,  scripted history flying maiden flight from Sharjah to her hometown Thiruvananthapuram on May 22. Jeni, the daughter of Beatrise and Jerome from Kochuthura, a coastal hamlet in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, has been the co-pilot of the Air Arabia flight that landed at Thrivanathapuram on May 23 early morning.

Jeni, along with her parent and brother, has been settled in Ajman for two decades. “She is obviously excited, but she has been trying hard to focus. It’s her first flight so naturally she will be tense and she will have to get everything right about it. She is a quiet girl who goes about with her studies in a focused manner and doesn’t like any kind of publicity. She is not even on Facebook so all these friend requests and massages on her Instagram page are pretty new to her,” said Jeby, Jeni’s brother, who is staying back in their native town following a surgery six months ago. Jebi was accompanied by Jeni and Beatrise back then. But, after the surgery, Jeni and Beatrise had gone back to Sharjah.

Jeni has become a social media sensation as she is the first woman commercial pilot from Kerala and the first pilot from the coastal hamlets.

“Congratulations to Jeni Jerome from Tvm’s Kochuthura on her maiden flight as co-pilot. When she flies today’s @airarabiagroup flight SHJ to TRV, it’s the realisation of a childhood dream of a girl from a small fishing hamlet to be a commercial pilot. A real inspiration!” tweeted Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament from Thiruvanathapuram.
