The edition witnessed some breathtaking goals from various strikers as well. “Bright” Display (SC East Bengal VS FC Goa)
This has to be the best of the lot as far as last season is concerned. Bright Enobakhare chose the game against FC Goa to showcase his “magical feet”. When Jacques Maghoma passed the ball to Bright, the latter zoomed past several Goa strikers in a flash, thwarting various tackles, especially from Aiban Dohling, to net the ball perfectly in the end. Despite stiff resistance from Ivan Gonzales and Savior Gama near the goal, Bright was bang on target that day, providing a lead to East Bengal in the 80th minute. Something To Cheer Even In A Losing Cause (Kerala Blaster FC VS ATK Mohun Bagan)
Yes, the script did not go as per the wishes of the “Manja Pada”, meaning Yellow brigade in Malayalam. However, Gary Hooper gave the Kerala side something to take home in spite of the defeat. Fourteen minutes into the game, Hooper chested a cross from Sandeep Singh and rammed it past the Goalkeeper of Mohun Bagan, who despite a desperate attempt could only see the ball crashing on the net. However, the goal only provided a temporary joy for the Kerala team, which eventually lost to ATKMB 3-2. To enjoy Gary’s spectacle please click on this link:
NE’s Icing On The Cake (NorthEast United FC VS Kerala Blasters)
Kerala team capped off another disappointing season last year whereas their NorthEast counterparts ended the league stage in style by defeating former 2-0. The occasion was rendered more special by Lalengmawia’s awe-inducing display. After getting the lead over the “Yellow Brigade” quickly into the game, in the 45th minute NorthEast’s Machado’s heavy cross was somehow brought under control by Dylan Fox, who instantly put it towards Lalengmawia. The winner of the Emerging Player of the Year award, Lalengmawia, then in a breathtaking display dispatched the ball like a missile towards the net, easily avoiding the hands of the goalkeeper. The ball initially hit the top bar of the goal post only for it to bang the net fiercely afterwards. Watch the mesmerizing goal by clicking on this link:
The Lightning Bolt Anirudh (Chennaiyin FC VS Jamshedpur FC)
At 52 seconds, this was the fourth-fastest goal in the annals of ISL history. As a result, the current skipper Anirudh Thapa’s goal against Jamshedpur made it straight to the record books. The then captain Rafael Crivellaro had passed the ball towards Esmael Goncalves during the match. Goncalves then sent a low cross towards the middle and Anirudh knocked the ball swiftly into the goalpost after sprinting hard towards the ball.
