Indian American-led Health Tech Startup ‘Elemino Health’ Offers Critical, Unmet Needs In Healthcare

An Indian American-led health mobile app is helping to address the national nursing and COVID-19 crises. Led by founder Dr Arup Roy Burman, Elemeno Health offers lifesaving information and continuously updated practices, essential patient care and COVID management data available on-demand.

His personal experience led Roy-Burman to found Elemeno. Dr Roy Burman’s younger sister succumbed to death due to a medical error at age 4.

“My sister Urmila … inspired me to become a physician in paediatrics, and critical care, ultimately caring for children with congenital heart disease. As an ICU doctor at several prominent Bay Area hospitals, I sadly continued to see patients dying from medical errors,” Roy-Burman was quoted as saying. “So together with bedside nurses and staff, we developed a solution to empower our frontlines with actionable best practices readily accessible at their fingertips.”

Elemeno Health, which addresses a critical, unmet healthcare need, focuses on equipping frontline staff with real-time patient care and self-care support. Team leaders readily deliver the latest best practices at the point of care in bite-size microlearning (custom video, decision guides, text), accessible to staff on any device, 24/7.

“It’s critical that all medical staff have the latest information to know that they are doing the right thing, both for their patients and for themselves. Informed staff are secure staff. Their resilience is essential to the longevity of the healthcare workforce,” Roy-Burman said.

Roy-Burman, also an associate professor of paediatrics at U.C. San Francisco, has been practising critical care medicine for 20 years. With a career spanning UCSF, Stanford, Children’s Hospital Oakland and Kaiser Permanente, he understands how healthcare systems work and engaging teams for successful outcomes, his bio notes.

Elemeno Health was co-founded in 2016 by UCSF Pediatric ICU Medical Director Arup Roy-Burman, MD, and

Along with Dr Roy Burmen, veteran Electronic Arts (E.A.) Game Developer Ed Nanale was also a co-founder of Elemeno Health.

“We are backed by leading seed-stage digital health investor, Launchpad Digital Health, Silicon Valley tech accelerator, Y Combinator, and leading regulatory tech venture investor, Fenway Summer. Modern hospitals and other healthcare providers are characterized by sophisticated equipment, highly qualified professionals, and exquisitely formulated treatments as well as a stunning lack of tools to ensure that those resources (hardware, humans, and remedies) are applied correctly,” read Elemeno Health profile in LinkedIn.

Medical errors are the third-leading cause of death in the U.S. So, Elemeno’s co-founders decided to tackle this problem by developing a cloud-based solution for frontline healthcare teams.

The Elemeno platform is a context-driven, microlearning solution to help frontline nurses, doctors, and ancillary staff adhere to the consistent delivery of best practices at the point of care.
