Authorities in the UAE have officially announced the holidays for Commemoration Day and the 50th National Day.
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources tweeted on Wednesday that federal employees would get three days off from Wednesday, December 1, to Friday, December 3.
Since Saturday, December 4, is a weekend, federal employees would have a four-day break in a stretch. They will resume work from Sunday, December 5.
The country will be celebrating its 50th birthday this year. National Day is celebrated on December 2 every year in the UAE, commemorating the day in 1971 in which founder Sheikh Zayed united six of the seven emirates that make up the country.
The seventh, Ras al-Khaimah, joined the union five weeks later.
The long weekend also marks Commemoration Day – a day to remember the fallen Emirati soldiers- that has been held officially on November 30 since 2015.
National Day celebrations typically involve fireworks and parades across the seven emirates.
