Google PhD Fellowships directly support graduate students while pursuing their PhD programmes, as well as connect them to a Google Research Mentor. The Google PhD Fellowship Program was devised to recognize outstanding graduate students doing exceptional and innovative research in areas relevant to computer science and related fields. Fellowships back promising PhD candidates of all backgrounds who want to influence the future of technology. Google’s mission is to foster inclusive research communities and encourage people of diverse backgrounds to apply. Google currently offers Fellowships in Africa, Australia, Canada, East Asia, Europe, India, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and the United States.
The Fellowships are awarded to students who represent the future of research in the following fields:

Eligibility
Full-time graduate students pursuing a PhD and enrolled in an African, Indian or Southeast Asian institution.
Undergraduate or Master’s students and professionals may apply.
Undergraduate and Master’s student applicants must be currently enrolled as full-time students at an African, Indian, or Southeast Asian university.
Professionals must be employed/affiliated with an organization registered in Africa, India, or Southeast Asia.
Grant of the Fellowship does not mean admission to the PhD programme of a university. The awardee must also complete the PhD admission process of the respective institute/university where they wish to register for a PhD.
Grant of the Google PhD Fellowship will be subject to the rules and guidelines applicable in the institute/university where the awardee registers for the PhD programme.
Students must remain enrolled full-time in the PhD programme for the duration of the Fellowship or forfeit the award.
Funding Details
Students receive the Fellowships, which include a monetary award as well. The funds are given directly to the university to be distributed appropriately to cover the student’s expenses and stipend. In addition, the student will be matched with a Google Research Mentor, who we hope will become a valuable resource to the student. For Indian PhD students in their initial stages, the fellowship includes:
Up to 4-year Fellowship
The US $50K to cover stipend and other research-related activities, travel expenses including overseas travel
Google Research Mentor
