Four India origin professors have been named fellows of the American Mathematical Society for 2022. The fellows have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication, and utilisation of mathematics.
The Indian-American professors Samit Dasgupta and Santosh Srinivas Vempala and Indian origin Canadian professors Malabika Pramanik and V Kumar Murthy are included in the list of fellows. A total of 45 mathematical scientists worldwide have been named Fellows of the American Mathematical Society (AMS) for 2022, the program’s tenth year.
“It is an honour to welcome a new class of AMS Fellows and to congratulate them for their notable contributions to mathematics and to the profession. We extend our thanks to the nominators and members of the selection committee for their help in highlighting the outstanding achievements of their colleagues,” said Ruth Charney, president of the American Mathematical Society, in a press release.
Malabika Pramanik of the University of British Columbia was selected for her contributions to complex and harmonic analysis and mentoring and support for the participation of under-represented groups in mathematics.
V Kumar Murty is from the University of British Columbia. Murty made to the list for contributions to complex and harmonic analysis and mentoring and support for the participation of under-represented groups in mathematics.
Samit Dasgupta of Duke University was selected as an AMS Fellow for contributions to number theory, particularly the theory of special values of classical and p-adic L-functions.
Santosh Srinivas Vempala of the Georgia Institute of Technology was chosen for contributions to randomised algorithms, high-dimensional geometry, numerical linear algebra, and service to the profession.
