Flipkart Opens One Of Its Largest Warehouses In West Bengal

India’s home-grown eCommerce marketplace Flipkart on June 16 announced a new fulfilment centre, the second-largest warehouse, in West Bengal. The new move has come as part of boosting its supply chain infrastructure in the East to cater to the increasing demand for eCommerce services across the state and the country.

Spread across an area of more than 2.2 lakh sq. ft. and offering around 3,500 direct jobs, the new warehouse in Dankuni, West Bengal, would cater to the requirements of both Flipkart and Myntra customers in the state.

With its opening, thousands of sellers will be able to offer a broader selection and enable faster deliveries to customers within the state and its neighbourhoods while also creating national market access.

With this additional new facility in Dankuni, Flipkart has now over 10 lakh square feet of warehousing space in the state alone, employing more than 50,000 people across the region. In addition to lakhs of square feet, warehousing assets from associate brands create lakhs of direct and indirect job opportunities whilst also working with more than 9,300 Kirana delivery partners and 10,000 sellers from the state.

Applauding the launch of Flipkart’s new fulfilment centre, Kalyan Banerjee, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, said, “We have all benefited tremendously in the last few months with the relentless efforts of eCommerce companies. Flipkart has been committed to bringing a world-class technology-enabled supply chain to the state and complementing the government’s efforts in meeting the needs of customers and safety delivering essentials.”

“We are glad that the new fulfilment centre will create over 3,000 jobs in the state and also help MSMEs grow and expand their businesses, he added.”

Commenting on the opening of a new fulfilment centre, Vandana Yadav, Secretary of Industry Commerce and Enterprises in West Bengal, stated that the state government is determined to grow the region and the businesses by creating conducive policies and offering all possible support for their growth.

“Flipkart’s continued investment in the state is a testament to the enabling ecosystem the state has helped create not just job opportunities but also a safe way of deliveries for the customers,” she said. “We hope it will further create many more opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship, valuing the long-standing partnership with Flipkart in bringing the goodness to eCommerce to the state.”
