EVA Airlines launches “Flight to Nowhere”: Uniting People to meet their loved ones

EVA Airlines (Evergreen Airways), a Taiwanese international airline based at Taoyuan International Airport near Taipei, Taiwan, has launched a flight service for singles on Christmas day, New Year’s Eve and New Year day. The service is provided by EVA airlines, partnering with travel experience company Mobius on a campaign called “Fly! Love is in the Air.”

“Because of Covid-19, EVA Air has been organizing “faux travel” experiences to fulfill people’s desire for travel. When single men and women travel, apart from enjoying the fun in travel, they may wish to meet someone like a scene in a romantic movie,” said Chiang Tsung-Wei, representing ‘You and Me’ the speed dating arm of Mobius, in an interview given to CNN news.

While flights to nowhere have been focusing on sightseeing only, EVA focuses on uniting the people and helping them enjoy easy travel. The journey is a three-hour flight that departs from Taipei’s Taoyuan International Airport then circles the airspace above Taiwan, including another two hours of a romantic date back on land.

Travellers are asked to keep masks on when they are not eating or drinking. They will be provided with sample meals prepared by Michelin-starred chef Motoke Nakamura. Travellers are also encouraged to have in-depth conversations with each other during the flight. Unlike the typical flight, travellers are not allowed to choose a window or aisle ahead of time. They will be seated pair by pair by lucky draw and will be allowed to move around freely and chat up with other travellers during the meals on land. Each flight will have a seating arrangement for only 40 passengers – 20 men and 20 women. One condition is that travellers have to be university graduates with citizenship in Taiwan. The new event welcomes men between the age of 28 and 38 and women between 24 and 35. The fare is $295 per person.

All the three flight trips differ from each other. Travellers taking the flight on Christmas will be able to experience an afternoon tea-date on the ground after landing; those who take the New Year Eve’s flight will have a chance to enjoy a candlelit dinner where they will ring in the new year. Lastly, those who take the New Year flight, will get to have a breakfast date. Followed by this, Air India is reportedly planning to start ‘Flight to nowhere’. Air India has planned to use Boeing 747 Jumbo jet for this purpose.
