Hollywood actor Elliot Page, on May 24, shared his ‘joy’ at wearing swimming trunks for the first time, five months after publicly coming out as transgender.
“Trans bb’s first swim trunks #transjoy #transisbeautiful,” Page wrote as the caption.
The image marked the first time that Page has shown his torso on his Instagram page since coming out.
In March, Page in an interview with Time Magazine, revealed that he had gone under top surgery as part of his transition. Although he acknowledged that such a surgery is not necessary for trans people and expensive, he noted that his surgery has changed his life.
Page announced that he is transgender last year in December. However, he later told Time Magazine that he had “felt like a boy” since he was nine years old.
Even though he emerged to stardom following roles in ‘Juno,’ ‘X-Men’ and ‘Inception,’ he said he had experienced “depression, anxiety, and panic attacks” associated with his gender identity.
Elliot Page, in 2014 came out as gay, a decision that helped to restore his mental peace but still left him searching. “The difference in how I felt before coming out as gay was huge,” Page told the Time. “But did the discomfort in my body ever go away? No, no, no.”
He said he got enough time to be isolated during the coronavirus pandemic that led him to consider telling the universe about his true self. “I had a lot of time on my own to focus on things that I think in so many ways, unconsciously, I was neglecting.”
He also mentioned that other trans actors like Laverne Cox and Janet Mock inspire him.
