The University of Edinburgh is a leading public research university in Scotland. Established in 1583, it is one of the oldest universities in the English-speaking world. The University has rapidly risen as an important research hub, with it receiving £296.1 million worth of research grants in the year 2020. The university is a part of the prestigious Coimbra Group, League of European Research Universities, Russell Group, Una Europa, and Universitas 21.
The alumni include 19 Nobel laureates, 3 Turing prize winners, 3 British prime ministers as well as noted scholars such as Darwin, Maxwell, Hume and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The university is currently ranked 16th according to the QS World University Rankings, 2021. The law school at the university is currently offering a fully-funded Ph.D. scholarship, which is open for international students. The law school was established in 1707 and is one of the most influential and prestigious in the United Kingdom. It was ranked 4th in the UK by the UK Government Research Excellence Framework.
Edinburgh Law School offers three full Ph.D. studentships, one of which is provided through a generous bequest from alumnus Ewen Cameron in his name.
Funding Details
The Scholarship includes:
Full tuition fee for up to three years.
Covers living expenses in form of an annual stipend in line with UKRI rates (approximately £15,700 per annum). The stipend will be paid in equal monthly instalments for a maximum of three years, subject to satisfactory progress.
Eligibility
Candidates for these scholarships must be starting their first year of full-time or part-time Ph.D. study in the Edinburgh Law School within the academic year 2022/23 (September 2022 or January 2023 entry). Students from the UK and other international destinations are eligible to apply. However, international students are not eligible for part-time studies.
To be considered for the scholarships, you must meet the standard minimum entry requirements. The successful candidates normally exceed these requirements, having obtained the highest classification in at least one of their degrees, and provide a strong research proposal that closely fits with the research within the school.
