The University of Groningen happens to be one of the best public research universities in the Netherlands. Situated in the city of Groningen, it was founded in 1614 and the university has rapidly risen to become one of the most prestigious institutions in the Netherlands. The institution has been consistently placed among the top 100 universities worldwide, according to leading ranking tables. In the 2020 version of the ARTU (Aggregate Ranking of Top Universities), which is based on data from THE, QS and ARWU, the University of Groningen appears as third in the Netherlands, 25th in Europe (including the UK), and 77th in the world.
The University of Groningen has eleven faculties, nine graduate schools, 27 research centres and institutes, and more than 175 degree programmes. The university’s alumni and faculty include Johann Bernoulli, Aletta Jacobs, four Nobel Prize winners, nine Spinoza Prize winners, one Stevin Prize winner, various members of the Royal Dutch Family, multiple mayors, the first president of the European Central Bank, and secretary-general of NATO.
The university is also one of the largest in the Netherlands with over 30,000 students being enrolled from undergraduate to doctoral levels. The University of Groningen is also known to accept international students in droves with 8250 international students enrolled as of 2020. The Eric Bleumink Scholarship offers talented students from developing countries the opportunity to study at the University of Groningen.
Grant Value
The scholarship award is granted for a 1 year or 2 years Master’s degree course, depending on the specific master’s programme. The grant covers tuition fee, costs of international travel, subsistence, books and health insurance.
Eligibility:
Candidates for the Eric Bleumink Fund must have received provisional or unconditional admission for a master’s programme before February. Only then will the applicants be considered for a grant from the Eric Bleumink Fund. The applicants must have excellent academic performance, preferably be confirmed by letters of recommendation as well as excellent grades during their bachelor/undergraduate studies. It is also compulsory for the applicants to have excellent English language proficiency, in accordance with the admission requirements of the programme of choice.
How to apply?
Interested candidates must apply for a Master’s programme before 1st December 2021. Candidates considered suitable for the scholarship will be nominated by the selection committee.
Please note that the scholarship is only awarded for master’s programmes (MSc/MA/LL.M.).
