Azim Premji University was founded in 2010 with a vision to create grounded professionals to work for social change. Using the critical insights gained from over a decade of groundwork in education, the university introduced several innovative courses that provide skills and insights for those looking to bring a positive change in society. In the past eleven years, the university has grown to be one of the best in India. Providing access to top-notch faculties and state-of-the-art facilities in its new 80-acre campus at Sarjapur-Attibele Road on the outskirts of Bangalore, the University offers a unique alternative to students for higher studies. The institute has 13-degree courses and over 1000 short courses for working professionals. It gives need-based scholarship to 55% of its students, making the student community truly diverse and allowing inter-sectional discourse. Currently, the university offers the following five postgraduate courses:
MA Education
A unique broad-based programme of study including theory, practice, research, policy and planning in education. A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university in India or abroad is required for this course.
MA Development
The programme aims to prepare individuals capable of informed and thoughtful development action. A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university in India or abroad is required for this course.
MA Economics
The programme, specializing in development and policy, is a uniquely designed course to develop the next generation economists with the theoretical knowledge and technical skills to perform high-quality analysis grounded in the institutional, developmental and ecological context of contemporary India.
For admission, the applicants need an undergraduate degree in Economics.
MA in Public Policy and Governance
The programme equips its graduates with the knowledge and competencies required to think deeply and purposefully in challenging situations of governance problems. A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university in India or abroad is required for this course.
LLM in Law and Development
The programme is designed to train individuals in a rigorous philosophical and conceptual analysis of legal doctrine with a social scientific inquiry into law and society in India. Students will engage with legal and social problems in field engagement and work in advanced legal research. A Bachelor of Law degree (or LLB of 3 or 5 years) from a recognized university in India or abroad is needed to be eligible for this course.
