For the last few days, since December 18 to be precise, all the talks concerning the “beautiful game” are centred around one person: Lionel Messi. In the frenzy over the Argentine’s role in securing World Cup for his national team, people seem to have forgotten about the other stalwart of the game ie Cristiano Ronaldo aka CR7. Post an underwhelming run, by any standards, in the marquee event at Qatar, Portugal’s forward cuts the figure of a lonely crusader forced to wage a heavenly battle to remain relevant in the current scenario. Ronaldo is also without a team in the League arena after his unceremonious exit from Man United. But he has offers from several quarters due to the robust cult he has built over the years. So, let us see the clubs that the media are linking the Portuguese with at the moment.
Chelsea
Will Ronaldo join the “Blues”? There has been immense speculation in British media that CR7 might join Chelsea. Well, there is no confirmation of the same till now. But as the transfer window beckons and the “Blues” missing firepower in the squad currently, Ronaldo might be the oxygen they require to kickstart their campaign in the next season. If reports are to be believed, Chelsea are chasing Portuguese relentlessly at present.
Al Nassr
Spanish media stressed during the recently concluded Qatar World Cup that Ronaldo is on the verge of joining Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr. The club has even offered the Portuguese star a whopping 173 million pounds ($211.65 million) annually for the same. However, the player has trashed the reports. Could there be smoke without fire? Let us wait and watch.
Paris Saint Germain
There were also constant murmurs that Ronaldo will move to the Parisian club to make it an outfit of the millennium. With an ensemble of Messi, Neymar and Mbappe, the addition of CR7 would make PSG a blockbuster outfit. Yet again, the PSG president has dismissed the claim, “The three players that we have (Messi, Neymar and Mbappe), it’s very difficult, but I wish him (Ronaldo) all the best. He’s fantastic, and he’s still an amazing player.”
Newcastle United
The English Premier League outfit, Newcastle United, is another option for the Portuguese star. The Saudi Arabian owners, post the takeover in October 2021, are also keen on having Ronaldo on board, as per British media. Again there is no confirmation on the same.
Any Major League Soccer (MLS) Club
David Beckham, a former United player and an Inter Miami co-owner, had said in 2020 that Messi and Ronaldo are being considered, emphasising his club’s global aspirations. Many stars have completed their sojourns in the US of late and Ronaldo on his part has not denied or confirmed the possibility of his inclusion.
