Two Indian-American Doctors join Georgia Composite Medical Board

Governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, on July 15, appointed Dr Sreeni R. Gangasani and Dr Subrahmanya Bhat to the Georgia Composite Medical Board (GCMB). The newly appointed doctors will join the team of GCMB, comprising 13 other voting members and one other ex-officio member.

After the Governor and state senators’ approval, GCMB generally appoints each board member who serves specific tasks in a span of four years each on committees. With incredible dedication and experience in the medical field, both Dr Gangasani and Dr Bhat have been appointed to GCMB. These two doctors earlier represented the Indian-American community through their past leadership roles.

“The Georgia Association of Physicians of Indian Heritage’s convention and banquet in 2015 was visited by Governor Kemp when he was the Secretary of State,” Dr Gangasani, who still volunteers with GAPI, was quoted as saying.

Georgia Association of Physicians of Indian Heritage has played a significant role in Dr Gangasani’s medical journey. He could represent his Indian-American heritage by being president of the organisation.

The graduate from Kurnool Medical College of the University of Health Sciences served as the Chief of the Department of Medicine at Gwinnett Health System.

Gangasani, who also served as secretary of Andhra Pradesh Physicians and Professionals of North America (APNA), received the Circle of Hope award in 2012 and 2017 for his compassion in Medicine. Having expertise in cardiology and excellent rapport with all of his patients during the Covid-19 pandemic, he got featured in FOX 5 Atlanta News and Khabar Magazine for his medical assistance.

As the pandemic has been more stressful for medical professionals, “changing practice styles with more telehealth being used, and I am happy to be a part of the team to provide quality health care to patients without putting undue strain on healthcare providers.”Gangasani added.

Dr Subrahmanya Bhat, on the other hand, has more than 30 years of experience in Pulmonology, Critical care, and Internal Medicine. The MBBS degree holder from Calicut University is certified by the board, possessing six different expertise. Dr Bhat is the Medical Director of Bhat and Bhat Medical centre in Stockbridge.

Like Dr Gangasani, he also represented his Indian-American culture throughout his medical career, serving on the Board of Trustees at the Hindu temple of Atlanta and president of the Association of Kerala Medical graduates. He also co-chaired the Indian-American International Chamber of Commerce.

Additionally, Dr Bhat is a recipient of the National Merit Scholarship from the Government of India.
