Tokyo Olympics: Lovlina Borgohain Bags Bronze Medal In Welterweight Boxing

Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain bagged the bronze medal in the women’s welterweight 64-69kg category at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday.  

The 23-year-old boxer from Assam secured a bronze medal after going down in her semifinal against World number one Surmeneli Busenaz. Lovlina, who is taking part in her maiden Olympics, lost the contest after a unanimous 5-0 decision.  

Securing a bronze medal, Lovlina became the second female boxer after MC Mary Kom to take a medal home at the Olympics. 

Meanwhile, many have stepped up to congratulate Lovlina, who has become the new boxing sensation.  

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Well fought @LovlinaBorgohai! Her success in the boxing ring inspires several Indians. Her tenacity and determination are admirable. Congratulations to her on winning the Bronze. Best wishes for her future endeavours. #Tokyo2020,” in a tweet.  

Bollywood celebrities, including Deepika Padukone and Abhishek Bachan, have also cheered up for Lovlina.  

However, Deepika took to Instagram stories to share an art featuring Borgohain.
