Tamil film ‘Koozhangal (Pebbles)’ will represent India in the International Feature Film category at the 94th Oscar Awards 2022.
The ceremony will be held on March 27, 2022, in Los Angeles.
Debutant Koozhanhal is the debut film of director PS Vinothraj, starring Chellapandi and Karuththadaiyaan. Superstar Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan under the Rowdy Pictures banner are the producers of Koozhangal. The film was screened at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam held in the Netherlands in February 2021. It was also honoured with the Tiger Award at the festival.
The film portrays an alcoholic, abusive husband who, after his long-suffering wife runs off, sets out with his young son to find her and bring her back.
Vignesh Shivan took to Twitter to share the news and wrote, “There’s a chance to hear this! “And the Oscars goes to “Two steps away from a dream come true moment in our lives. #Pebbles #Nayanthara @PsVinothraj @thisisysr @AmudhavanKar @Rowdy_Pictures Can’t be prouder, happier & content (sic).”
A total of 14 films, including the recently released Vicky Kaushal-starrer Sardar Udham were shortlisted for consideration this year. Noted filmmaker Shaji N. Karun led the 15-member jury.
