Six Indian Americans Named in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 List

Six Indian Americans have been named in Forbes’ ’30 Under 30′ list 2022 under the Science and Consumer Technology categories.

The recently-released Forbes list marks the 10th anniversary of the Forbes Under 30 class, which is set to define the next decade — and beyond, it noted.

Three were named in the Science category in the list released December 1. While three have been named in the Consumer Technology category.

The first one named in Science is Srijan Kumar, an assistant professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology. According to Forbes, Kumar is working to make the internet safer. He is into data science and machine learning solutions to combat malicious actors like fraudsters and troll armies. Flipkart, India’s largest e-commerce platform, has used his research. His research has also influenced Twitter’s Birdwatch platform.

The second one named in the Science category is Pranav Rajpurkar, an assistant professor at Harvard. Rajpurkar leads a lab focused on artificial intelligence applications for health, including deep learning algorithms for reading chest X-rays and electrocardiograms that can make diagnoses on par with humans, and his research has more than 10,000 citations along with co-hosting the AI Health Podcast, noted Forbes.

Shruti Rijhwani, a PhD candidate at Carnegie Mellon University, has also been named in the Science category. Rijhwani’s work is on developing natural language processing technologies to help communities revitalize endangered languages. According to UNESCO, at least 40% of the world’s 7,000 languages as endangered. Rijhwani’s algorithms help extract text from non-digitized books and handwritten documents and make them accessible online.

Tulsee Doshi is the first one named in the category of Consumer Technology. Doshi studied AI at Stanford before joining Google, where she’s spearheaded the launch of more than 30 products that help make the company’s AI-based initiatives safer and more inclusive. Alongside Engineering VP Marian Croak, Doshi established and now leads an internal organization of more than 100 AI researchers and engineers, noted Forbes.

Uttara Sivaram has also been named on the list. She pulls off a tricky balancing act, said Forbes. As Uber’s Global Head of Privacy & Security Policy, she guards the $73 billion ride-hailing company’s ever-moving trove of rider and driver information. In the meantime, she must partner with local governments and law enforcement to safely manage data that influence traffic plans, infrastructure and public safety. Before Uber, the Stanford grad was a product manager for Bidgely, a software maker for utilities.

Sid Yadav is the final one who made his way to the list. In January 2020, Yadav, previously VP of Product at edtech Teachable, founded Circle to give creators a single place to manage their brands and fanbases. Since then, Circle has signed up more than 2 million users, including Bozoma Saint John and Brendon Burchard and more than 4,000 businesses paying $39 to $399 for access.
