Shiba Inu (SHIB) is a decentralized meme token to quickly gain popularity in recent months and is now the world’s fourth-largest cryptocurrency by Twitter followers.
What Exactly Is This Shiba Inu?
It is a decentralized cryptocurrency created by an anonymous person or a group known as “Ryoshi” in August 2020. Shiba Inu is an Ethereum-based altcoin that features the Shiba Inu hunting dog as its mascot. It is often referred to by its supporters, a community known as the SHIBArmy, as “the Dogecoin killer” or “the Dogecoin alternative.”
In other news, Binance Coin (BNB) leads crypto on Twitter with 6.6 million followers, Bitcoin (BTC) comes in second with 3.9 million followers, and Dogecoin (DOGE), the original meme coin, takes third place with 2.9 million followers.
With just 300,000 followers separating them from their dog coin competitors, SHIB is closing the gap on its competitor.
ShibArmy believes the asset they promote has the potential to become the largest crypto community on Twitter, displacing Binance Coin. But Changpeng (CZ) Zhao deserves all the accolades for Binance Coin‘s excellent performance. Another important factor is the fact that Binance Coin is the currency of the world’s largest crypto exchange.
There are still some Shiba Inu fans who doubt the ranking, saying that the BNB community can’t outnumber Shiba Inu supporters.
The Bitcoin (BTC) community-ranked second, with 4 million followers on the Bitcoin account. With 2.3 million followers, dog coin is ranked fourth on the platform, surpassing XRP, which is ranked fifth with 2.2 million followers.
In third place is Elon Musk‘s preferred cryptocurrency, Dogecoin (DOGE). DOGE community is considered one of the most active and largest on the network, with 2.6 million followers on Twitter.
Unlike Dogecoin, which joined Twitter in December 2013, Shiba Inu joined in February 2021 and has gathered a massive following within a year. Given the lack of news on Dogecoin plans and with SHIB getting game contracts, interesting partnerships and new listings, sooner or later the “top dog” will have to give way to the challenger.
The fifth spot is occupied by Ripple (XRP), a cryptocurrency that has been making news over its protracted legal battle with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Ripple has 2.2 million subscribers.
