Before the kick-off of the premier league calendar, every year fans all over the world anticipate a lot when it comes to certain players. However, some play to their potential whereas others flatter only to deceive in the end. This time also the premier league had several studies in contrast. So, let us have a look at the players who promised a lot but delivered precious little.
Jadon Sancho (Man United)
He came to the Old Trafford club with a lot riding on his shoulders after a spectacular time with Borussia Dortmund, where he found the nets at will and was part of several assists as well. However, with Manchester United, he is yet to hit the straps. With 2 goals and 3 assists from 28 league and European outings, Sancho simply does not justify his heavy price tag of £72m. So, the Englishman needs to do much better than this going forward.
Joe Willock (Newcastle United)
Joe Willock found the net eight times in 8 matches in the previous season. Then, he was on loan from Arsenal and was instrumental in saving Newcastle the blushes. So, Newcastle shelled out Arsenal £25m for Joe’s performance. However, this season Willock has looked rusty in most of the matches. So, for Newcastle and their fans, the former Arsenal midfielder has to put his best feet forward in future games.
Harry Maguire (Man United)
Post a scintillating Euro 2020, Harry Maguire was supposed to set the grounds on fire. But that is not the case so far this season. In the Euro 2020, he had been on a song and helped England with a second-place finish and the Red Devils expected similar displays on his part.
However, the 28-year-old has only multiplied the problems of the Man Utd with some grave individual mistakes. By conceding nine goals in the 2021-22 season he is not only hurting the Red Devils but also himself.
Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea)
The Belgian happened to be the seventh most expensive player for Chelsea in 2021 with a record transfer worth £ 97.5 million and Tuchel believed that Lukaku can help the Blues to finally grab the Premier League title. But since his return to the Blues, the 28-year-old had a meagre 7 goals to show in 21 outings in League and Europe so far. Presently, his performance has fallen further due to the spat he had with Tuchel. Going forward, he needs to build bridges as well as make amends for his mediocre outing so far.
