If you are a UAE resident, you can open a bank account within five minutes, sitting at home. Yes, you read it correctly. Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) collaborates with the UAE government to offer UAE citizens and residents to open a bank account remotely and digitally.
ADIB, on August 2, announced the opening of accounts by clicking a selfie from their home, which takes less than five minutes to promote digital services. With this, ADIB became the first bank in the UAE to introduce an instant and highly secure verification process before opening a bank account. The bank uses the Ministry of Interior’s facial recognition verification system to verify accounts and then give them a nod.
“Together with the ministry, for the first time, we are enabling the UAE residents to open an instant digital account in a secure and seamless way,” Sameh Awadallah, head of ADIB’s branch network, was quoted as saying.
The Ministry has built the Face Recognition System to not miss an individual from the Ministry’s data like their Emirates ID, Passport or how s/he looks.
Awadallah said that using a facial recognition system is key for ADIB to implement emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI).
With such an initiative, the UAE government aims to enhance the efficiency of services and assist UAE banks in reinforcing the cybersecurity infrastructure.
Earlier this year, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum approved the facial recognition system to reduce the time of a lengthy verification process of individuals through documents.
Lt-Col Dr Ahmed Saeed Al Shamsi, head of the artificial intelligence systems and services development team, highlighted that the Ministry cooperates with all government and private institutions to offer services backed by facial recognition technology.
If you are a UAE resident, you need to download the ADIB mobile banking app (linked with the Ministry’s database) to open a bank account remotely and digitally, allowing a seamless verification process.
