The over-the-top (OTT) video streaming platform Netflix announced a free subscription named StreamFest for two days- on December 5 and 6- in India. StreamFest gives a chance to non-subscribers to watch the show or series of their choice.
Earlier in October, the company announced that StreamFest would give all users access to stream for 48 hours on Netflix without buying the credentials. Even card details are not needed for this two days trial. Otherwise, we have to update our card details to enjoy the free trial.
The Streamfest will go live in India on December 5 and will be valid till December 6. Users can simply enter their name, email address and create a password to avail the offer’s benefits. The promotional offer will allow users to watch the entire Netflix catalog which includes movies, shows, documentaries, and more. In a talk about announcing testing the Streamfest in India, Netflix COO Greg Peters had said during a conference call, “An idea we’re excited about — and we’ll see how it goes, we think that giving everyone in the country access to Netflix for free for a weekend could be a great way to expose a bunch of new people to the amazing stories that we have. Creating an event, and hopefully, get a bunch of those folks to sign up.”
Registered users will be able to browse the content on Netflix to stream the app on their smart TV, gaming console, iOS, and Android apps and on the PC. However, the streaming quality would be Standard Definition (SD). There will be a cap on the number of users who can access Netflix during the StreamFest. However, Netflix did not share any figures. Netflix discontinued offering its first month free trial in India last year and was experimenting with several promotional offers. Netflix also introduced a low-cost mobile streaming plan at Rs.199 to attract more customers. Apart from this, Netflix introduced several short terms plans to suit the pockets of the Indian subscribers. The other plan includes 199, 349, 499, 649 and 799. The number of devices which can be accessed at a time and the video quality varies according to various plans. The number of Netflix users has increased in recent years. The web series released through Netflix has the most audience. Netflix is currently one of the most popular streaming apps in India. It has Amazon Prime, Disney+ Hotstar, Zee5, Alt Balaji, Voot, and more in India as a competition.
