Mars Will Have its Own Crypto, But Not Dogecoin, Says Elon Musk

Dogecoin and Elon Musk have become a fixture of the crypto-verse, especially since Musk gave an interview after he was named TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year 2021, during which he explained why Dogecoin is better than Bitcoin.  

The meme coin experienced one of its greatest rallies in recent history after Elon Musk announced his electric vehicle manufacturer, Tesla, would accept DOGE as payment for merchandise.

Although Elon Musk undoubtedly supports Dogecoin, he recently revealed that DOGE could not be the official currency of Mars during a podcast interview with Lex Friedman, much to the dismay of many.

Musk said that Martian laws and civilisations would not be subject to countries’ rules on Earth, citing the impending migration of humans to Mars. Musk replied that Dogecoin would be impossible to become the official currency on Mars. However, he believes that it will indeed have its own cryptocurrency when Mars is colonised.  

Syncing Dogecoin between Earth and Mars would be impossible due to the speed of light. Mars is roughly 20 light minutes away, so Musk believes that “it won’t work.”
