Indian farmers who have been protesting for over a year against the farm laws which were scrapped later, and other issues, including a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) announced they would end their protest and vacate the protest sites on Saturday, December 11.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) dedicated the historic victory of the struggle to around 715 martyrs of the movement including those in Lakhimpur Kheri. As the nation is mourning the sudden demise of CDS General Bipin Rawat and associates, farmers have decided to postpone their victory celebrations.
They would take out a Fateh Ardas (victory prayer) at 5:30 pm today and a Fateh March (victory march) at Singhu and Tikri protest sites on Delhi’s borders on December 11 around 9 am.
According to SKM, the central government through the Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, sent a formal letter to SKM agreeing to several pending demands of the protesting farmers.
The demands put forward by the protesting farmers included the withdrawal of all agitation-related cases and compensation to all families of the farmers who died during the course of the movement against the contentious agriculture laws.
The following were the demands of the protesting farmers:
1. Withdrawal of all the agitation related cases registered during this protest in all states/ UTs/ Central Govt agencies etc.
2. Compensation to all the families of the agitating farmers died during the course of agitation
3. No criminal liability of the Farmers in case of stubble burning
4. Govt to discuss electricity amendment bill with SKM/ farmers before discussing it in the Parliament
5. Committee on MSP formed; SKM to list out their members in the committee and give it to farmers
