The emerging Indian electronic vehicle (EV) market is slowly gaining traction. After announcing the Ola electric scooter’s arrival, now Hero MotoCorp teases its upcoming electric scooter during its 10th-year-anniversary celebrations.
Hinting the arrival of Hero’s electric scooter, Dr Pawan Munjal, chairman, MD, and CEO, said that the electric scooter would be introduced in the coming months and some other electric two-wheelers in the pipeline. He only gave a quick brief of the scooter at the live-streamed event but didn’t share any details or technical specifications.
The side of MotoCorp’s electric scooter was unveiled at the event, and it indicates that the scooter gets a 12-inch front wheel along with a smaller 10-inch rear wheel. A glimpse of the electric scooter also suggests telescopic forks up front and a mono-shock at the rear other than having a single-sided swingarm. The exterior of the scooter looks to be functional and not futuristic. It gets a sloping apron and a small flyscreen in the front and end. The seat is split, and there’s also a small grab-rail at the rear.
The company has been working aggressively to develop its electric lineup and will be launching a range of products in the market.
This year in April, Hero MotoCorp announced its partnership with Gogoro, a Taiwanese company, saying that it will add Gogoro’s battery swapping technology to India. This suggests that Hero MotoCorp’s electric scooters may be built on Gogoro’s electric scooter platforms.
As per a news report of July 2021, Pawan Munjal of Hero MotoCorp and Naveen Munjal of Hero Electric were at loggerheads regarding Hero MotoCorp’s entry into the electric two-wheeler space. Hero MotoCorp is yet to enter India’s EV space formally; Hero Electric is well-established in India’s electric two-wheeler industry.
