Happy Lohri 2022: India Welcomes The Harvesting Season

Lohri, a popular traditional harvest festival in North India, is observed the night before Makar Sankranti. Lohri 2022 falls on January 13 today.   

Lohri festival in India marks the receding of winters and the beginning of a new harvest season. The festival is primarily celebrated by Hindu and Sikh communities in the Punjab region of India.   

Lohri is celebrated with a traditional bonfire and bhangra dance. During the celebration, people offer prayers to the Gods for a healthy harvest bringing prosperity to the families. They also offer gur ki Rewari, peanuts, and makhana to the bonfire. 

Lohri celebrations are a gathering of people at a commonplace and setting up a huge bonfire with various kinds of sweet delicacies. Grand feast is also served as Lohri is all about relishing the traditional food.  

On Lohri, Bollywood stars have been sending wishes to their fans and followers. Amitabh Bachchan shared a fun video on Instagram with the famous Punjabi folk song, Sundri Mundriye Ho, playing in the background.   

Sharing the video, Amitabh Bachchan wrote, “Happy Lohri .. peace, calm and safety.”
