People suffer from myopia when it comes to Middle East countries, especially UAE, Bahrain, Qatar etc. Resultantly, there is a misconception that these countries are good only for shopping and nothing else. But this is not true at all as the Gulf countries offer plenty on the platter apart from myriad shopping options. One among them is sporting events. From football, cricket, FI Racing to tennis, they host a lot of sports tournaments to satiate the desires of sporting fanatics across the globe. So, here we at NRI Vision have tried to explore various upcoming sporting events in the UAE for the convenience of the readers.
Abu Dhabi
NBA Matches
The major professional basketball league NBA is all set to grace the UAE capital for the first time this year in October. With the participating teams and host venues still shrouded in mystery, only one thing is certain: NBA lovers in the UAE are going to have a gala time. Also, on the anvil are interactive sessions for fans involving present and erstwhile NBA artists, NBA 2K exhibition events etc. So, are you game for some high-octane action on the court?
Grand Prix @ Yas Island
Those who swear by the revving up of car engines and are eager to witness the beastly machines setting the race track on fire, then simply come to Yas Island in Abu Dhabi to experience some awe-inspiring sagas. To add some spices to the fast and furious nature of the sport, the spectators will be treated to some adrenaline-pumping music extravaganzas as well. However, the F1 Fanatics will have to wait till November to find out whether Lewis Hamilton has fully recovered from last year’s heart-breaking loss or if Max Verstappen would grab his second title? It is going to be an agonizing wait for sure.
Mudabala World Tennis Championship
Last time around, Russia’s Andrey Rublev shocked England’s Andy Murray to lay his hands on the coveted trophy. So, who will be the last man standing this year? It is something difficult to predict at the moment as no one would have imagined the trophy in the hands of Rublev before the start of the tournament last year. But stranger things have happened in the past and it is almost a given that spectators are in for some riveting affairs in December this year.
Dubai
DP World Tour Championship
With DP World entering the European Tour as the new sponsor for the group’s main tour at the start of the current season, it has become a win-win situation for all. Apart from increasing the prize fund to the US $ 2 million for each tournament, Dubai gets the opportunity to host the prestigious event this time. Expected to be held at Jumeirah Golf Estates, the season-ending tournament will begin from November 17 onwards.
Asia Cup 2022
Though these are early days, UAE has emerged as the front runner to host the T-20 cricket championship if Sri Lanka does not recover in time from the present economic crisis. The ICC has given Sri Lanka time till July 27 to decide on the scheduling of the tournament. In the current scenario, it looks like a Herculean task for the Island nation to conduct such an event. So, UAE looks all set to host the event again in August this year after conducting the last edition of the tournament in 2018.
