Epic Games, a game development firm, and Lego, the well-known building toy brand, have announced a collaboration to create a metaverse for children. This metaverse environment aspires to empower children of all ages to become builders and designers of their own experiences while also safeguarding their freedom to play by prioritizing online safety.
Epic Games and Lego are teaming up to launch a shared metaverse:
Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, has teamed up with Lego, the world’s most renowned toy building block firm, to create a shared metaverse. According to a press release posted on the Epic Games website, the metaverse project will be built from the bottom up to be suited for children of all ages who can build their own experiences.
The following information was included in the news release: The family-friendly digital experience will provide children with tools that will enable them to become self-assured creators and provide great play chances in a secure and happy environment.
Neither company has revealed what the metaverse’s theme or characters would be. However, Fortnite is one of the most popular online games, and the two businesses have prior experience creating metaverse-inspired environments. Lego also created Lego Worlds, an online game that debuted in 2015 as a direct rival to Minecraft.
The safety of children is a top priority:
The collaboratively created metaverse will be meant to be an age-appropriate experience with the goal of safeguarding children from unmoderated information on the internet. Parents will be able to be active participants and have control over their children’s interactions.
The Lego Group’s CEO, Niels Christiansen, emphasized the importance of this focus: We must ensure that [these events] are safe, inspirational, and helpful to everybody. We’re committed to protecting children’s rights to safe digital play in the same way we’ve maintained their rights to safe physical play for decades.
Epic Games has the resources necessary to complete the task at hand. Super awesome, a startup whose business concept involves connecting kids with safe digital experiences while monetizing these connections, was bought by the company in 2020.
The companies have defined three key principles for creating this new metaverse, including “protecting children’s right to play by prioritizing safety and wellbeing, safeguarding children’s privacy by prioritizing their best interests, and empowering children and adults with tools that give them control over their digital experience.”
