Do Golden Visa Holders Need Work Permit If Employed In Private Sector?

If you happen to be a Golden visa holder in the UAE, you may doubt the requirement of a work permit to be employed at a private company in the country.

Well, as per the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE), every employee must have a valid work permit along with a residence visa to render his or her services to the establishment under the private sector.

The ministry that manages labour relations in the UAE issued a statement on July 1 that if you are already working under a labour contract and became eligible for a Golden visa, work permits and valid contracts in place will still apply to you. Moreover, the validity of all applicable legislation in the country, especially the provisions of the Labour Law when they join employers in the private sector, will also remain in place.

MOHRE also announced the start of issuing work permits for Golden visas holders in the implementation of a Cabinet Resolution, as per which a work permit for holders of the Golden visa has been introduced.

Further clarifying, MOHRE said this permit is given in three circumstances:

• A person who was not working at the time of getting the Golden visa if s/he wishes to work for an employer

• When a current employer wishes to renew the work permit and contract for the Golden visa holders after the expiry of the work permit

• When a Golden visa employee changes his job to another organisation.

The ministry confirmed that the same procedures have to be followed when it comes to issuing work permits and contracts (if a worker has a Golden visa sponsored by his or her family member).
