Former US President Donald Trump said he is not a fan of Bitcoin, despite praising former first lady Melania Trump’s recently-announced NFT platform.
In addition, Trump discussed his new social media platform, Truth Social, and Melania’s non-fungible token (NFT) venture.
Ex-US President Trump warned that crypto is ‘very dangerous’ and predicts a massive ‘explosion.’
Nevertheless, Trump called cryptocurrencies “a very dangerous thing,” echoing comments he made in June on CNN. Bartiromo asked Trump, “What do you think about crypto?”. He noted that “New York and Miami are really integrating cryptocurrency into their financial systems.”
“Well, I never liked it because I like the dollar. I think the currency should be the dollar, so I wasn’t a huge fan. But now it’s spilling over, and no one is doing anything about it.”
“In my opinion, all these other issues could explode one day – the likes of which we have never seen before. It will make our recent big tech explosion look like a baby.”
President Trump has never been a fan of cryptocurrency. In August, he described cryptocurrencies as “disasters waiting to happen.” In June, he described bitcoin as a scam that needs heavy regulation.
The former first lady was also asked about her non-fungible token (NFT) venture. Melania Trump announced last week that she was selling an NFT titled “Melania’s Vision” on her newly launched NFT platform, which will release NFTs regularly.
The new endeavour embodies my passion for the arts and will support my ongoing commitment to children through my Be Best initiative, she said in a statement.
“She is going to do great,” Trump said of his wife’s NFT plans. “She’s got a great imagination. And people really like our former first lady.”
Trump stated, “It’s going to be so big about his Truth Social platform.” Trump previously explained that the new platform would be an alternative to Silicon Valley internet companies biased against him and other conservative voices.
The former president has also been asked how he intends to compete with big tech companies like Twitter and Google. “We have no choice,” he replied, repeating that he believes “it will be very big.”
