The Coalition of Overseas Telangana Association (COTA) has demanded both the Central and the Telangana State governments to make a comprehensive policy for the lakhs of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) working across the World. They demanded a policy for the welfare and protection of NRIs and their families both in the country and abroad.
Celebrating the Telangana Pravasi Diwas on December 18, the Chairman of COTA, Mudlapudi Venkat Aamrith, M. Bheem Reddy, president of Immigrants Welfare Front, along with Basheer Ahmed NRI from Oman, Bindu Latha from the United States of America, V. Laxman Reddy from South Africa, said lakhs of Indians are working in foreign countries and sending thousands of crores to the country as well as to the Telangana State.
But, according to COTA, they are being neglected. They do not have proper facilities in foreign countries, particularly Gulf countries. In Gulf countries, the people are in jail for pity cases, and no one is there to represent their cases in the courts. So COTA pointed out that a legal advisor in every Embassy who knows Telugu and Urdu, particularly in Gulf countries, should be appointed.
Also, some people come to foreign countries without any proper documents and arrangements. And, of course, they would be landing up in jails. Pravasi Bhawans can handle this issue, and a Telangana Pravasi Bhavan should be established in Hyderabad. Here, the unemployed youths who desire to go to foreign countries searching for jobs can contact Bhavan and get the proper guidance.
Apart from these issues, they demanded that NRIs should be given the right to vote online.
