American President Joe Biden on September 21 announced that he has nominated Ashish Vazirani, an Indian-American management consultant, for the position of Deputy Under Secretary of Defence for Personnel and Readiness, Department of Defence.
Vazirani, who is a Bachelor’s degree holder in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University, is the Principal of A20 Strategies, LLC.
Vazirani migrated to the United States at the age of 3 along with his family. His father was a combat-wounded Marine of Vietnam-era.
After completing his Bachelor’s degree, he pursued a Master of Engineering from the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University. Vazirani then did an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
When Vazirani joined LLC, he offered advisory services to commercial and non-profit, high growth and large enterprise on the aspect of development, implementation, and execution of growth strategies.
Earlier, he served as Executive Director and CEO of the National Military Family Association (NMFA). During his tenure at the NMFA, he provided strategic and operational oversight and direction for all aspects of NMFA’s advocacy and programming to assist military families, as per the statement of White House on September 21.
Besides, Vazirani helped NMFA regain its four-star charity rating and expanded various programmes, including a child care fee relief initiative.
He was even selected to serve as a Member of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Committee for the well-being of military families.
Before being part of NMFA, Vazirani worked at the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) and led development and programming. He ensured the implementation and measurement of standardised programmes serving junior enlisted military families.
He spent around 22 years as a management consultant before joining the ASYMCA. He worked with leading high tech and pharmaceutical companies to create transformational change and delivered customer-centric solutions and profitable growth.
Vazirani served as a Submarine Officer in the United States Navy from 1986 to 1993.
