One of the greatest Indian freedom fighters and revolutionaries, Bhagat Singh, was born on September 28 1907. He was born in Banga village of Faisalabad district, now in Pakistan’s Punjab province. An inspiration for many, he was only 23 when he was hanged in the Lahore jail along with Shivaram Hari Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar on March 23, 1931.
At a young age, Bhagat Singh became a part of the Indian independence movement. Besides participating in movements against British rule in India, he contributed as a writer and editor for Punjabi and Urdu language newspapers.
As India celebrates his 114th birth anniversary, here are some quotes and images of the revolutionary freedom fighter.
“It is easy to kill individuals but you cannot kill ideas.”
“They may kill me, but they cannot kill my ideas. They can crush my body, but they will not be able to crush my spirit.”
“But man’s duty is to try and endeavour, success depends upon chance and environments.”
“Merciless criticism and independent thinking are the two necessary traits of revolutionary thinking.”
“Revolution is an inalienable right of mankind. Freedom is an imperishable birthright of all”
“If the deaf have to hear, the sound has to be very loud”
