Having started the campaign quite promisingly, Chelsea later on huffed and puffed to end up at the third position in the last season of the Premier League. Hence, the wait for the coveted trophy just got a bit longer for the “Blues”. Still, what they have accomplished is remarkable, considering the turbulent times they were in due to the sordid saga surrounding Roman Abramovich, their previous owner. Despite losing both domestic cup finals, Thomas Tuchel deserves all the praise for taking the “Blues” to the next season’s Champions League. However, they need to tighten screws on some aspects of their play. And the one thing that Tuchel would like to set straight is….
Unflattering Record Against The “Top Six”
In the last season, Chelsea managed just 3 wins out of the 10 games against the “top 6”. This is something that would make Tuchel very anxious going into the next season. The Blues drew four times but lost in the other three games. Compared to this Liverpool and Manchester City, the two top teams in the league, fared much better. In fact, the City won six of the games against the opposing teams.
Chelsea’s Upcoming Fixtures
Going forward Tuchel side has some home games with their rivals. Chelsea are all set to take on their “big six” opponents in their backyard initially, prior to their travel to each of their potential title rivals in the latter half of the campaign. Their most crucial and toughest battles come against Liverpool, who the “Blues” are all set to host on September 17, prior to a visit from Manchester United on October 22. So, if they harbour any hope of winning the title this time they cannot afford the slip-ups they encountered previously.
Task Cut Out For Tuchel
Tuchel knows exactly what is required of him and his team members, and ultimately everything boils down to how he executes his plans. The conundrum regarding Romelu Lukaku needs to be cracked as soon as possible. There is no point in having an expensive but extremely unhappy person in the outfit, so the proverbial elephant has to be eliminated from the room at the earliest. Then Tuchel needs to figure out the best combination to take on the potentially dangerous rivals in the league. So, Chelsea have their task out before they kick off their new Premier League campaign against Everton on August 6.
