There is a relatively newfound interest in Ayurveda, as a complementary medicine system, in a few parts of Europe today, especially Germany. The public perception of Ayurveda has transformed into that of a comprehensive and traditional method of holistic medicine with deeply relaxing wellness therapies. Ayurveda is now at the threshold of entering into the realm of evidence-based science, with numerous researches that have been conducted on the same.
The development of Ayurveda received a significant impetus when countries like Germany, Italy, and the UK recognisedAyurvedic medicine within the framework of postgraduate medical education and licensed clinical practice of Ayurveda treatment centers and hospitals. As a result of this initiative, The Rosenberg European Academy of Ayurveda (REAA) was founded in 1993, which played a phenomenal role in the growth of Ayurvedic roots in foreign territories.

As a non-profit organization mainly financed by tuition and treatment fees, the REAA pursues social purposes rather than economic ones. For the past 15 years, it has conducted courses on Ayurvedic massage, nutrition, and medicine, training over 3000 adult students in long-term programs. It has established close relations with leading Indian and European universities and institutions such as Middlesex University in London, Charité Medical University in Berlin, Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha (CCRAS), and Banaras Hindu University (BHU), which enable it to improve quality by using traditional Ayurvedic expertise.
Every year the REAA’s International Ayurveda Symposium is conducted where lectures, speeches, and panel discussions are presented by internationally known professors, doctors, and Ayurveda specialists from South Asia and various European countries. Within the symposium frame, the academy organizes an Ayurveda camp on healing and research were true to the motto “Ayurvedic Medicine for Everyone,” it offers Ayurvedic medical consultations and advice from experienced Ayurvedic doctors and Vaidyas free of cost, under medical direction.
Patients undergoing Ayurvedic treatment regain their inner balance by health-promoting therapies that includes excellent Ayurvedic cuisine, Yoga sessions, lectures, meditation, and workshops on disease prevention and health promotion. The academy is situated far from the hustle and bustle of city life, in a very natural setting where they can relax and restore health at their own pace. On a more personal level, the REAA hopes to help its students find new perspectives on their work. Through healthy surroundings, the science of Ayurveda, friendly interactions with other participants, and a supportive spiritual program create new perspectives on everyday life, making it healthier and more self-fulfilling, thus leading to a way of full inner peace. With this, REAA’s Ayurvedic education, without entirely forfeiting its classical form, is made practical and suitable for western students.
