The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, President of Qatar, and HE Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of Algeria, spearheaded the signing of an agreement, two memoranda of understanding and an executive programme, between the two countries on 20 February 2022 at the Amiri Diwan.
Both the presidents saw the signing of the agreement on legal and judicial cooperation in criminal matters between the two governments. A memorandum of understanding was signed, on the establishment of political consultations and coordination between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
Also, a memorandum of understanding in the areas of social development and the family, between the two governments was signed.
The Amir and the Algerian President witnessed the signing of the second executive programme in the field of higher education, scientific and technological research of the educational and scientific cooperation agreement between the two countries’ governments for the academic years (2022-2025).
The signing of the latest memorandum and agreement would further boost the ties between Qatar and Algeria.
Also, the minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Affairs, Kaouter Krikou, and Qatar’s minister of Social Development and Family, Mariam bint Al-Misnad, signed an agreement in the field of social development and family.
After the signing of the agreement, it will allow the judiciaries in the two countries to interact more and exchange experiences to improve the performance level to imply the values of justice and the rule of law for the benefit of the citizens of both countries.
It was stated that this memorandum will constitute a new spirit of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including lawyers’ boards, judicial experts, research centres, and judge training schools.
It was also stated that Qatar, which shares noble values with Algeria, intends to achieve justice through the rule of law and institutions. The legal memorandum of understanding between Algeria and Qatar includes 20 articles designed to strengthen ties between both countries.
Economically, Qatar is Algeria’s largest Arab investor, accounting for the majority of its foreign investments. One major investment includes the Algerian Qatari Steel project in the Bellara industrial zone in Jijel, northeast of Algiers.
Diplomatically, the two countries share similar views on a number of issues. This includes Palestine as well, where both Qatar and Algeria refuse to hold any truck with Israel.
