If you are living in any emirate of the UAE on your spouse’s sponsorship and you want to work legally over there, you need to have a work permit issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE). MOHRE even provides the option of issuing a work permit under the residence visa issued by a relative or friend. If you wish to work in the UAE and you are on your spouse’s visa, you need to follow the below steps that are mentioned by the respective Ministry.
As per the Ministry website, a work permit can be issued for a wife on her husband’s sponsorship, and a husband on his wife’s sponsorship. If you are a woman above 18 years of age and under the sponsorship of your father, you are also eligible to work legally and can work with a work permit.
Though the work permit application will be managed by your employer, proceed with the application, first, ensure that you have the following documents:
- A No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the sponsor
- Copy of passport and visa, valid for at least six months
- Passport-sized colour photograph with a white background
- Academic qualification copies in case of a skilled profession
- An approval letter issued by the competent authority is required for specialised professions like doctors, engineers, nurses or teachers
- Your Emirates ID
Once you have all the necessary documents handy, your company’s public relations officer (PRO) needs to submit documents such as your breakup of the salary, including the basic salary along with the allowance, the working hours, weekdays, weekends and working hours of you at a Tasheel centre. Once everything is submitted at the Tasheel centre, the work permit will be issued within two or three working days.
Your company may apply for a short-term, temporary work permit that is valid for six months; or a long-term work permit that is valid for one or two years. When the duration of the work permit gets over, it becomes null and void automatically. If you wish to continue working, you must apply for a new work permit.
