At Expo 2020 Dubai, Diwali Celebrations To Go On Till November 5

Expo 2020 Dubai is all set to celebrate Diwali with full festivities this week until Friday, November 5. In one of the most talked-about events in recent times, the Diwali celebrations will kick off with all the pomp and splendor to attract millions of Indians who live and work in the UAE. The Indian Pavilion has created an interactive musical LED rangoli, along with diyas with a backdrop inspired by mandala art.

Diwali, popularly known as the festival of lights, is a five-day winter festival in India and is celebrated all around the world. Dr. Aman Puri, consul general of India in Dubai, welcomed all visitors to the Expo to be a part of the celebrations, “ Diwali is popular across the globe and the Expo has given us a platform to showcase India’s magnificence to the visitors.” He added, “ We look forward to celebrating Diwali, the festival of lights with great zeal to ensure that the visitors at the Expo 2020 Dubai get to experience the festival.”

The festival of lights will be as rich and diverse as India’s customs and culture. There will be live dance and music, art, film, food and a specially designed 360-degree illumination projection show at Al Wasl Plaza. Traditional dances, storytelling sessions, rangoli displays – colorful designs drawn out across the floor- and performances by leading Indian artists are scheduled on each day. The celebrations started with the Dubai police band and Indian expatriate groups’ performances. The band played the national anthems of the United Arab Emirates and India as part of the celebrations.

The pavilion will showcase a range of performances by Indian celebrities. On 4th November the sibling duo Salim and Sulaiman Merchant, and Bollywood playback singer Vipul Mehta will be performing. The Dubai-based Hindi band Dhruv will be performing in the Millennium Amphitheatre on 5th November.

The Expo also has a diverse range of Indian restaurants dishing out Diwali treats to the visitors, ranging from high-end Indian dining courtesy Rohit Ghai to Diwali-themed baking classes at Bread Ahead Bakery.

The Diwali celebrations will conclude at Millennium Amphitheatre on the night of November 5.
